Dutch-born photographer, art director and designer Matthias Vriens McGrath began his career in Amsterdam as the owner of an antiques store in the city's famous Spiegelstraat Quarter. He then moved to Paris in the 1990s where he established himself as one of fashion's preeminent photographers, working for publications such as Vogue Hommes and iD-Magazine.
After landing at iconic fashion journal DutcH as editor and creative director, Vriens-McGrath pivoted into corporate fashion as creative director at both Giorgio Armani and the Gucci Group.
Today, Vriens is based in Los Angeles where he creates designs for furniture, lighting and one-of-a-kind objects for his eponymous studio, Atelier MVM. The collection is inspired by the designer's lifelong admiration for the decorative arts, antiquities, naturalia, and vintage indigenous textiles.
