Stourhead I & Stourhead II

Photographs by Dale Goffigon.
Archival pigment print framed in white washed wood with museum plexi.

Stourhead I & II are photographs taken in the Temple of Flora at Stourhead in Wiltshire, England. The property is home to one of the first country villas ever to be built in the Palladian style. The Temple of Flora was dedicated to the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, and was the first garden building erected by Henry Hoare II, circa 1744. Over the doorway, the Latin inscription reads:
"Keep away, anyone profane, keep away."
