“A Harlot’s Progress” by William Hogarth

Set of six 19th century engravings
newly framed in black lacquer with robin's egg mat.

The tale follows Moll Hackabout, a young woman from the country, who comes to London seeking work as a seamstress. Instead, she finds herself positioned as a mistress and then falls further into the life of a harlot. From garret lodging, to prison, to her last days and death from venereal disease, Moll leaves behind an illegitimate son, who no doubt will not come up from the cycle of innocence corrupted.
